FEATURED SPEAKERS

William Satariano, PhD, MPH, Professor of Epidemiology and Director of the Health and Social Behavior Program in the School of Public Health UC Berkeley -- The author of Epidemiology of Aging: An Ecological Approach, Prof. Satariano will address, among other issues, the role of the CDC-sponsored Healthy Aging Network and his research on measures of the built environment and how such environments affect physical activity in older populations.

Andrew Scharlach, PhD, Professor of Aging at the School of Social Welfare, UC Berkeley -- This co-author of Elder Care and the Workforce: Blueprint for Action and Controversial Issues in Aging, will address the chasm between current and projected elder needs and our current supply of professionals, as well as his work on innovative approaches to transforming communities to become more aging-friendly and supportive.

David Lindeman, PhD, Director CITRIS and Center for Technology and Aging -- Dr. Lindeman will discuss technology-enabled services and health care delivery best practices, and will focus on current challenges and technologies for making aging as healthy and independent as possible.

Mariko Yamada, MSW, a former California Assemblymember and a candidate for California State Senate District 3 -- Ms. Yamada, who served as Chair of the Assembly Aging and Long-Term Care Committee for five years, is a very dynamic speaker and will discuss legislative and policy “hot topics” in public health, including support and protection for seniors in long-term care.

OTHER TOPICS TO BE EXPLORED

~ Advocacy for nursing home reform; a range of aging-in-place supports, from senior nutrition services, in-home services, fall prevention, and safe routes for seniors

~ The roles of federally supported aging networks and workforce development programs

Continental breakfast and lunch provided.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: CEUs are pending for registered nurses and health educators, currently approved for registered dietitians. CEU Fees to be paid onsite at $10 per contact hour. CPHA-N is a CA Board of Registered Nursing Continuing Education Provider # CEP 4952. CHES units to be provided through CSU Fresno.

* STUDENTS: A limited number of student scholarships available at each location in exchange for two hours of work.
